Chobe National Park, Botswana
Chobe National Park in northern Botswana, near the vast, inland Okavango Delta, is home to a great diversity of wildlife: herds of elephants and Cape buffalo on the Chobe Riverfront; lions, antelopes, and hippos in woods and lagoons; and in the marshy grasslands multitudes of birds are joined by migrating herds of zebras.
Brown shadow stripes between the black bands on their haunches and continuing down and around the belly identify these as plains zebras, who live in stable, closed family groups. Plains zebras often greet each other with a nuzzle and, like these two, engage in mutual grooming, an important part of the social life of the herd.
