  • Four friends take a break from working their families’ terrace farms on the steep slopes of Nirmalidanda, a village in the hills of eastern Nepal. Subsistence farming is the mainstay of Nepali hill people, who grow rice, millet, corn, and wheat, plus vegetables and fruits. Between Nepal’s tropical lowlands and the arctic climate of the high Himalaya Mountains, the fertile middle hills are home to an ancient culture that has developed from Tibeto-Burman groups that migrated over the Himalaya and live alongside Indo-Aryan peoples who came up from India.

    Product Description

Help us celebrate Peace Corps’ 60th anniversary in 2021! Since Peace Corps was established in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy, volunteers have fanned out across the globe to serve in 142 countries. Now, with all volunteers temporarily evacuated and recalled home due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it is especially critical to call attention to and support the important work that Peace Corps Volunteers do worldwide.

The 2021 International Calendar is a look at 13 of the 142 countries where Peace Corps Volunteers have served since 1961. In addition to Namibia, Guatemala, India, Ghana, MYanmar, Colombia, Peru, Rwanda, South Africa, and Russia, for the first time Chad and Costa Rica are featured. The 2021 cover photo—of four friends taking a break from working on their families’ terrace farms—was taken in the high Himalaya Mountains of Nepal.

Our calendar researchers consult solar, lunar, and astronomical calendars to determine the dates of important events each year. Do you want to know when solar eclipses or meteor showers will occur in 2021? Or on what day in August the Green Corn Moon will be full? From religious high holy days to important civic dates to annual local market days, you’ll find much to inform and entertain you.

Along with photos and demographic information about each featured country, there are lists of suggested recipes to try and music, films, and books to explore. For a list of current and past suggestions, just click on the “Cultural Resources” button or check out our “Educator Resources.”

We are thrilled to have you purchase directly from us, but you might be able to support an RPCV group near you by buying your 2021 calendar from them. To find out If there is a local group near you selling the 2021 International Calendar, click on Groups selling the calendar.

Contact us to see how your group can sell the calendar for your own fundraising efforts.

Thanks for your interest in the calendar from Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) of Wisconsin–Madison.

    1. An excellent international calendar 5 Star Review

I have always loved the focus on the people and locations where the PC serves. Also the calendar provides lots of interesting details. I love the book recommendations which we use for selecting our choices for our book club since we only look at literature from countries were the PC has served.

    2. Calendars are popular fundraising items 4 Star Review

RPCVHI has purchased calendars for many years. The profits from our sales supports our Aloha Grants and Aloha Care Packages for currently serving PCVs from the state of Hawaii. In 2020, the profits from sales last year and this year are helping with our emergency relief fund.

One suggestion. Could the paper used be less "slick"? Then ink doesn't "smear". Otherwise, this is a great product.
